Passengers traveling across Kazakhstan can now stay connected even in some of the country's most remote regions after Starlink satellite internet was launched on the Astana-Semey-Dostyk rail route.
High-speed satellite connectivity has been introduced aboard train No. 121/122, making Aray Trans KZ one of the first private railway operators in Kazakhstan to deploy Starlink technology for passengers, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
The initiative was implemented as part of the Kazakh Ministry of Transport’s broader push to modernize rail services through digital innovation. The project was carried out in partnership with engineering company Kaztechnology, which worked with Aray Trans KZ to install the satellite communication system.
The new service provides reliable internet access along sections of the route where mobile network coverage was previously unavailable, allowing travelers to remain online throughout the journey.
The project is expected to significantly improve passenger comfort, support digital services on board, and enhance the overall travel experience on one of Kazakhstan’s important rail corridors.
The launch is the latest step in Kazakhstan’s transport digitalization drive. Earlier, the Ministry of Transport announced a new digital system for exchanging international road transport permits with Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Kyrgyzstan.
