A criminal network involved in large-scale livestock theft has been dismantled in Kazakhstan, with several veterinarians among those detained.
The operation took place in the West Kazakhstan Region as part of the “Qauipsiz Öñir” security initiative, aimed at improving regional safety and combating organized crime, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Investigators said the organized criminal group, which included veterinary specialists, ran a long-term scheme to steal cattle and sheep and then illegally legalize them through official databases.
Stolen livestock was registered through data systems, allowing criminals to disguise its illegal origin before selling it on the market.
The suspects were detained and placed in custody. The group is now cooperating with investigators as the case moves forward.
