Kazakhstan is accelerating its ambition to become a key logistics hub between Asia and Europe, with major expansion underway at the country’s Caspian Sea ports of Aktau Port and Kuryk Port.
The development was highlighted by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov during the 40th session of the Conference of Railway Directors of the Organization for Cooperation Between Railways, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Bektenov described the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route as Kazakhstan’s “unique advantage,” combining rail and maritime infrastructure to speed up cargo flows across continents.
Container traffic is already rising steadily, with plans to increase annual volumes from 80,000 to 300,000 twenty-foot containers by 2029.
Thanks to coordinated regional efforts, delivery times along the Middle Corridor have already dropped to 18 days, with an ambitious target of just 10 days in the coming years.
The expansion of container hubs in Aktau and Kuryk is attracting international shipping and logistics companies, strengthening Kazakhstan’s role in East-West trade.
At the same time, development continues on the eastern branch of the North-South corridor, linking Central Asia with Gulf and Indian markets.
Kazakhstan is also investing heavily in digital transformation. The new Tezcustoms platform has already reduced border clearance with China from 8 hours to just 30 minutes, with similar systems being expanded to other partners.
The Astana session brought together delegates from around 30 countries, including China, Russia, Hungary, Vietnam, Poland, and South Korea, underscoring growing international interest in Kazakhstan’s emerging logistics network.
With expanded ports, faster routes, and digital customs systems, Kazakhstan is positioning itself as a strategic transit bridge across Eurasia.
