Kazakhstan and France have signed key financing agreements for the construction of the large-scale wind power plant “Mirny” marking a major step toward green energy development.
The agreements were signed by Samruk-Kazyna, KazMunayGas and French energy giant TotalEnergies, The Caspian Post reports via KMG.
The new wind farm, with a capacity of 1 GW, will be located in the Moyynkum district of the Zhambyl region and will feature advanced energy storage systems. Total investment in the project is estimated at around $1.2 billion, with a significant share coming from foreign capital. Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2028.
The “Mirny” project is a key pillar of KazMunayGas’s low-carbon development strategy through 2060, reflecting Kazakhstan’s broader push toward sustainable energy and reduced carbon emissions.
Once operational, the wind power plant is expected to enhance energy security in southern regions, increase the share of renewable energy in the national grid, and drive socio-economic growth in the Zhambyl region.
