Kazakhstan, Hungary Reaffirm Commitment to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Yerlan Koshanov, Speaker of the Kazakh parliament, has met with Laszlo Kever, Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, during Kever’s official visit to Kazakhstan, where they discussed strengthening interparliamentary cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties.

This visit marks Kever’s third trip to Kazakhstan, highlighting Hungary’s sustained interest in strengthening bilateral relations, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Last year, during Koshanov’s visit to Budapest, the two countries signed an interparliamentary cooperation agreement, establishing a firm foundation for continued collaboration.

Welcoming his guest, Koshanov emphasized that both parliaments are well-positioned to expand cooperation further. He remarked, “Kazakhstan-Hungary relations have entered a new phase, fueled by the warm friendship and consistent efforts of our national leaders. In 2023, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, followed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s successful state visit to Hungary. These visits resulted in strategic agreements and important arrangements that now require legislative support from our parliaments.”

Koshanov also highlighted Kazakhstan’s ambitious reforms and initiatives, including the parliamentary reforms outlined in the president’s recent Address, alongside the adoption of key laws to implement these changes.

The discussions extended to exploring cooperation prospects across a wide range of sectors such as trade and economic development, investment, agriculture, transportation and transit, energy, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

In recognition of his contributions to advancing bilateral relations, Koshanov presented Laszlo Kever with the Dostyq Order on behalf of the Kazakh president.

In a related development, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Bakayev held talks with Márton Ugrósdy, Deputy Secretary of State of Hungary’s Prime Minister’s Office and Head of the Office of the Political Director, further underscoring the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between Kazakhstan and Hungary.
