Kazakhstan is looking to deepen economic ties with Indonesia by expanding cooperation in energy, logistics, agriculture, and Islamic banking as both countries seek new trade and investment opportunities.
The issue was discussed during talks between Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, The Caspian Post reports via Orda.kz.
The meeting focused on practical areas of cooperation rather than diplomacy, with both sides identifying sectors where joint projects and stronger trade ties could bring mutual benefits.
Kazakhstan and Indonesia expressed interest in expanding cooperation in energy, agriculture, food production, textiles, the digital economy, and tourism. Islamic banking was also highlighted as a key area, as Kazakhstan continues efforts to develop the sector.
Logistics emerged as another major topic. Kazakhstan offered Indonesia to use its transport corridors as a gateway to the markets of Central Asia, the Eurasian Economic Union, and Europe, reinforcing Astana’s ambitions to strengthen its role as a major transit hub between Asia and Europe.
Trade turnover between the two countries remains relatively modest. In 2025, bilateral trade reached around $245 million, with Kazakhstan mainly exporting metallurgical and chemical products, while importing electronics and textiles from Indonesia.
In the first three months of 2026, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $31.5 million.
The sides also expressed interest in increasing mutual investments and expanding business-to-business cooperation.
