President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov have signed a comprehensive cooperation plan designed to expand bilateral trade and deepen strategic ties.
The agreement was finalized following the seventh meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, where the two leaders reviewed collaboration across multiple sectors, including trade and economy, transport and transit, water and energy resources, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges, The Caspian Post reports via the Kazakh presidential press service.
“Relations between our two countries are developing in the spirit of alliance. Kyrgyzstan is one of Kazakhstan’s key strategic partners in the region. Bilateral trade has reached nearly $2 billion, and there is potential to increase this figure,” President Tokayev said.
He highlighted that investment cooperation continues expanding annually, paving the way for joint projects in vital sectors, particularly water and energy. President Tokayev also reminded that in 2024, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed a historic Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Allied Relations.
“Today we are adopting a Comprehensive Cooperation Plan. I am confident that these important steps will give new momentum to the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan relations. The governments of both countries should be guided by the goals and tasks outlined in this plan,” he added.
For his part, President Japarov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to further strengthening ties with Kazakhstan, emphasizing the principles of friendship, good neighborliness, and historic brotherhood.
At the conclusion of the talks, both presidents signed a Joint Declaration, while members of their official delegations adopted a Roadmap to boost bilateral trade to $3 billion by 2030, alongside several other intergovernmental and interagency agreements.
