Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have officially restored a vital hydrological data-sharing link, ending years of negotiations.
Delegations met in Astana to revive cooperation on the Kirov, Orto-Tokoy, and Toktogul reservoirs, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Kyrgyz officials were led by First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov, while Kazakhstan was represented by First Vice-Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurlan Aldamzharov.
Following the meeting, the 2026-2028 Cooperation Program between Kazakhstan’s Kazhydromet and Kyrgyzstan’s Hydrometeorological Service was signed. The agreement covers operational hydrological data exchange, basin runoff and precipitation forecasts, storm warnings, and joint scientific and technological collaboration.
“This program is a vital milestone in bilateral cooperation, enhancing emergency prevention and rapid response. Timely data exchange ensures the safety of populations and infrastructure along transboundary rivers, especially during floods,” said Aldamzharov.
