Kazakhstan Names American Expert as New Aviation Administration Chief

Kazakhstan has named experienced aviation expert Michael Daniel as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, effective May 4, 2026.

The appointment was confirmed by the Civil Aviation Committee, marking a significant leadership change aimed at strengthening the country’s aviation sector and expanding international connectivity, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Michael Daniel brings more than 40 years of experience in civil aviation. He holds a degree in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and began his career at the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where he worked in key roles including flight operations inspector, aircraft certification specialist, and senior manager for international aviation programs and policy.

His career includes extensive global leadership experience, having headed FAA offices in Singapore and Beijing from 2006 to 2009, where he oversaw foreign repair stations and conducted international safety assessments.

Over the years, Daniel has also led major aviation safety initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region and collaborated closely with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on global aviation standards.

One of his key priorities in Kazakhstan will be expanding international air connectivity, including efforts to establish direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States.
