Kazakhstan Performs Central Asia’s First Robot-Assisted Heart Surgery

Kazakhstan has made medical history by performing Central Asia’s first robot-assisted heart surgery at the Medical Center Hospital of the Presidential Affairs Administration in Astana.

A 28-year-old patient with a congenital atrial septal defect underwent the groundbreaking procedure using a next-generation robotic surgical system, allowing for a minimally invasive approach without the need for traditional sternotomy. The patient’s condition is stable, officials confirmed, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

The surgery was conducted by Kazakh cardiac surgeons in collaboration with a team of Chinese specialists as part of an international scientific and practical conference. The event also featured consultations from global experts, including Dr. Olga Dzhioeva (Moscow) and Prof. Jeon Yungwoo (South Korea).

The conference gathered over 4,000 participants from Kazakhstan and ten other countries, discussing topics from cardiac surgery and oncology to digital healthcare and pharmaceutical regulation. Live sessions attracted more than 4,000 online viewers.
