Kazakhstan Saves Lives with 250-260 Organ Transplants Annually

Since 2012, Kazakhstan has doubled the number of open-heart surgeries performed, leading to a significant reduction in mortality rates from cardiovascular diseases.

Healthcare Minister Akmaral Alnazarova revealed at the first international conference on medical tourism in Astana that deaths caused by heart conditions have decreased threefold over the past 15 years, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Kazakhstan now ranks among the top 30 countries globally for cardiac surgery, offering 80 advanced medical procedures, including heart surgeries, organ transplants, and innovative rehabilitation methods.

The country’s premier cardiac surgery clinic has received international certifications for its programs targeting chronic cardiac insufficiency and the use of left ventricular assist devices. To date, it has successfully conducted 86 heart transplants, implanted 460 artificial left ventricles, performed 17 lung transplants, and completed three total artificial heart implants followed by heart transplants.

The number of interventional cardiac procedures has also tripled in the last decade. Kazakhstan boasts 42 centers for percutaneous coronary interventions and 89 angiographic units nationwide.

Furthermore, the nation conducts between 250 and 260 kidney, liver, and heart transplants annually, with more than 4,300 patients currently on the national organ transplant waiting list.

Kazakhstan is one of only six countries worldwide equipped to perform both heart and lung transplants, highlighting its rising status in the field of advanced medical care.
