Kazakhstan is set to launch its own Water Polo League, aiming to strengthen competition, support club development, and inspire youth participation in aquatic sports.
The initiative was announced by Dmitriy Balandin, Secretary General of Kazakhstan’s Swimming Sports Federation, during a government meeting, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“Kazakhstan plans to create a Water Polo League. I take this opportunity to seek support from local authorities in opening water polo clubs across regions,” Balandin said.
He noted that the new league will be modeled after the country’s Basketball and Volleyball Leagues, serving as a major step toward expanding professional team sports and nurturing young talent nationwide.
Earlier at the meeting, Tourism and Sports Minister Yerbol Myrzabosynov revealed that 35 new sports facilities have opened across Kazakhstan this year, with 67 more expected by year’s end, underscoring the government’s push to grow sports infrastructure and participation.
