Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas company, in partnership with Italian energy company Eni S.p.A., has successfully completed and commissioned a 50-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in the city of Zhanaozen, located in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan.
The solar facility represents the first phase of an ambitious hybrid power plant project that will ultimately combine solar, wind, and gas generation technologies, The Caspian Post informs via KazMunayGas.
“The launch of this facility marks the first phase of a hybrid power plant project with a total capacity of 247 MW, which will integrate solar, wind, and gas power plants,” the statement said.
Spanning approximately 80 hectares, the solar farm comprises more than 80,000 photovoltaic panels, contributing significantly to Kazakhstan’s growing renewable energy capacity.
Looking ahead, KazMunayGas and Eni plan to complete two more key components of the project by 2026: a 77 MW wind power plant and a 120 MW gas-fired power plant. Once fully operational, the project will function as an integrated hybrid energy complex, designed to balance the reliability of conventional energy with the sustainability of renewables.
