Magnitude 4.4 Earthquake Strikes Kazakhstan

A moderate earthquake has shaken southeastern Kazakhstan, with tremors recorded near the town of Zharkent, raising attention across the region.

According to the Kazakh National Data Center, the quake occurred 33 kilometers northwest of Zharkent in the Zhetysu Region. The seismic event was registered at 00:42 (GMT+5) on March 31, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The earthquake measured magnitude 4.4 on the mb scale, with an energy class of K=9.3. While no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been released, the tremors were strong enough to be recorded across monitoring systems.

The latest seismic activity follows a stronger earthquake earlier this month, when a magnitude 5.5 tremor struck parts of Türkiye, highlighting ongoing tectonic activity across the wider region.
