A themed fair highlighted the essence of Nauryz as a symbol of renewal, harmony, and respect for spiritual roots. Diplomats actively joined in traditional Kazakh games such as arqan tartu (tug-of-war) and asyq atu (a traditional Kazakh national game - "shooting the knucklebone" or "bone throwing". It is an ancient, popular pastime involving the ankle bones of sheep (called asyks) and is often described as a Central Asian version of marbles, popular among children and adults), adding energy and authenticity to the celebration.
Opening the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Culture and Information Minister Aida Balayeva emphasized the special significance of this year’s festivities, noting they coincide with a pivotal moment in the country’s history. She highlighted that the recent nationwide referendum adopted a new Constitution, setting Kazakhstan’s future course based on justice, progress, education, science, and innovation. The document also enshrines the preservation of cultural heritage and respect for national traditions as core state principles.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev echoed these sentiments, underscoring Nauryz’s role as a powerful tool of cultural diplomacy that fosters mutual understanding and strengthens ties between nations.
