Shell and BP are set to maintain and even expand their presence in Kazakhstan, signaling continued confidence from global energy giants in the country’s oil and gas sector.
Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Issetov confirmed that reports about Shell’s possible exit earlier this year were unfounded, noting that ongoing talks and new agreements clearly show the company’s long-term commitment, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Shell has already secured a new geological exploration contract in the Aktobe Region, which will run through 2032-reinforcing its strategic position in Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, BP is actively increasing its footprint. A recent agreement between KazMunayGas and BP will see exploration activities launched in the Mangistau Region, marking a renewed phase of operations after a temporary pause.
Kazakhstan’s cooperation with international energy partners is no longer limited to funding. The focus is shifting toward advanced technologies, workforce training, and developing high value-added production within the country.
The continued presence of Shell and BP highlights Kazakhstan’s stability as an energy hub and its attractiveness for major global players.
