Kyrgyz Deputy FM Meets Russian Ambassador to Tackle Labor Migration Issues

Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziyev has met with Russian Ambassador Sergei Vakunov to discuss the status and labor migration challenges faced by Kyrgyz citizens residing in Russia.

Special attention was given to the pre-departure preparation of labor migrants, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

Kyrgyzstan proposed organizing key procedures-photography, fingerprinting, and medical examinations-within the country before citizens travel to Russia.

The implementation of a mechanism for legalizing the migration status of Kyrgyz citizens registered in the Russian Federation’s Controlled Persons Registry was also discussed.

The Kyrgyz side suggested opening additional service windows for document submission at migration centers and territorial divisions of the Russian Interior Ministry. This measure is crucial due to the significant increase in applications and resulting queues.

The necessity of establishing direct official communication between Kyrgyz consular officers and heads of Russian migration units was emphasized to promptly address issues arising locally.

Other topics included migration registration at the actual place of residence of Kyrgyz citizens, and mandatory Russian language proficiency testing for children of Kyrgyz citizens upon school enrollment. It was proposed to consider conducting such testing at higher education institutions in Kyrgyzstan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their readiness for constructive dialogue and continued coordination of efforts aimed at facilitating the stay of Kyrgyz citizens in Russia.
