A new French documentary shedding light on the alarming retreat of glaciers due to climate change has been partially filmed in Kyrgyzstan, spotlighting the region’s fragile ecosystems.
The film, titled “Glaciers, une course contre la montre” (Glaciers: A Race Against Time), was produced by ARTE France in collaboration with GEDEON and shot in part at the Adygene scientific station in the Tian Shan mountains, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
The 90-minute documentary examines the global consequences of glacial melt and the urgent need for climate action. Directed by acclaimed mountaineer and filmmaker Bruno Peyronnet and produced by Pierre-Olivier François, the film captures not only the scientific but also the emotional dimension of humanity’s connection to high mountain landscapes.
Peyronnet, known for his immersive approach, brings a personal lens to the subject, exploring the histories, myths, and beauty of glaciers while documenting their alarming disappearance.
Hydrologist Gulbara Omorova, who participated in the filming, warned of the ecological dangers facing Kyrgyzstan. “Glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate, which has a negative impact on Kyrgyzstan’s water resources and environment,” she said.
