Kyrgyz Leader Calls for Calm Amid Tensions, Highlights Major Infrastructure Progress in Bishkek

During a meeting with residents of Bishkek’s Pervomaisky district after the capsule-laying ceremony for the new Altai residential complex, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov urged citizens not to fall for provocations or misinformation.

President Japarov pointed to recent achievements, including the long-awaited waste recycling plant that is set to launch operations in December, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

“For 30 years, garbage burned and people lived in stench. Now we have built a plant, and there isn’t enough waste to process,” he said. “The plant’s capacity is 1,200 tons, while Bishkek produces only 800 tons. And it won’t just burn waste - it will generate 30 megawatts of electricity.”

Addressing public concerns about the presence of Chinese workers in Kyrgyzstan, the president stressed that they are involved in essential infrastructure projects.

“They did not come to invade us - they came to build factories and the railway. We need all of this. We cannot live in a cave,” Japarov noted. “Starting from 2030, with the new railway, we will gain access to global markets and a major transit advantage.”

His comments come after a recent conflict involving Chinese and Kyrgyz citizens during sand and gravel transportation from a quarry. The altercation resulted in one hospitalized driver and the detention of 16 Chinese nationals. A criminal case has been opened.
