Kyrgyz Ministry Urges Farmers to Boost Yields with Winter Wheat Planting

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry has issued a strong recommendation for agribusinesses and farmers to focus on planting winter wheat this season, citing its advantages in productivity and resource efficiency.

Winter wheat yields 20-30 per cent more than spring wheat, offering farmers greater profitability amid steady demand for high-quality grain, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

The crop, sown in the fall, begins its vegetative growth earlier and matures faster than spring wheat, enabling the possibility of a second harvest or earlier field preparation, which can significantly increase farm income.

The ministry emphasized that autumn soil conditions-with higher moisture retention-favor improved seed germination and deeper root development. Additionally, the combination of autumn rainfall and warmer temperatures promotes nutrient absorption, enhancing plant growth. The lower weed presence during fall planting also simplifies weed control efforts.

Moreover, sowing winter wheat in autumn allows farmers to complete crucial spring agricultural tasks more efficiently, reducing the workload during the busy season, the ministry noted.
