The Jogorku Kenesh, Kyrgyzstan’s national parliament, has voted in favor of early self-dissolution.
Kyrgyz MP Ulan Primov noted that the move comes amid concerns about the close timing of two major political events - the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
“The interval between these two important events is relatively short. In order to strengthen the political system and maintain stability in the country, a group of 32 deputies has proposed that parliament voluntarily step down,” Primov explained during the session.
The proposal was brought to a vote, with 84 deputies supporting the voluntary dissolution of the 7th convocation of the Jogorku Kenesh.
