Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture has reported a substantial increase in grain exports to Kyrgyzstan during the 2024-2025 agricultural season, with imports from Kazakhstan rising sharply.
In 2024, Kazakhstan recorded its largest grain harvest in a decade-26.7 million tons in total, including 18 million tons of wheat, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
From September 2024 through June 2025, the country exported 9 million tons of grain, marking a 60 per cent increase compared to the same period last season.
“Exports are up 60 per cent year-on-year. Central Asian nations and nearby countries remain the main export destinations,” the ministry stated.
Grain shipments to Kyrgyzstan rose particularly sharply, increasing by 94 per cent and reaching 233,000 tons. The surge reflects deepening agricultural trade between the neighboring nations and growing demand for Kazakh grain in the region.
Breakdown of Kazakhstan’s Grain Exports (Sept 2024-June 2025):
Uzbekistan: 3.3 million tons (+32 per cent)
Tajikistan: 1.2 million tons (+45 per cent)
Afghanistan: 309,000 tons (+46 per cent)
Kyrgyzstan: 233,000 tons (+94 per cent)
Iran: 974,000 tons (up 17.5×)
Azerbaijan: 707,000 tons (up 116×)
