Kyrgyzstan Signs Deal with Chinese Firms to Build 250 MW Solar Plant

Kyrgyzstan is stepping into a new era of renewable energy with a landmark investment agreement signed with Chinese companies to build a 250 MW solar power plant.

The deal, finalized at an international forum in Suzhou, was signed by Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev, Liu Fernando Oscar of States Technology Co., and Liu Yunjie, CEO of Sun Energy Co., The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

The plant will span 669.3 hectares in Ak-Turpak village, Batken region, with construction starting this year and commissioning expected in 2027. Electricity produced will be supplied to the local grid via National Electric Networks of Kyrgyzstan, powering residents in the surrounding area.

In addition, the Ministry of Energy signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with POWERCHINA to attract international investors, develop long-term energy plans, train specialists, and explore innovative projects, including floating solar plants on the Toktogul Reservoir. POWERCHINA, a global leader in hydropower and renewable energy, will play a key role in implementing these initiatives.
