Mayor of Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek city Aibek Junushaliev has met with a delegation from South Korea’s K-water company, led by Vice President Han Seong-Yong, to discuss a joint project focused on cutting greenhouse gas emissions and revitalizing the urban environment.
During the meeting, the mayor emphasized Bishkek’s ongoing growth and infrastructure development, noting that the city still faces challenges requiring comprehensive and sustainable solutions, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
“We hope joint initiatives will allow us to apply Korea’s successful experience in our city,” he said.
Following the talks, Bishkek City Hall and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on the urban renewal and carbon emission reduction project.
The agreement includes measures such as switching to eco-friendly energy sources, installing modern drinking water systems, recovering biogas from wastewater treatment, and implementing smart technologies to detect and prevent gas leaks.
