The European Union is discussing further visa liberalization with Türkiye, signaling a potential breakthrough in relations between Ankara and Brussels.
The issue was reportedly raised during the recent visit of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to Ankara, The Caspian Post reports via Kommersant.
According to the report, the discussions also included Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, and EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner.
The talks focused on possible steps to simplify visa procedures for Turkish citizens, a long-standing issue in EU-Türkiye relations.
Türkiye has repeatedly stated that membership in the European Union remains one of its strategic foreign policy objectives. The country has held EU candidate status for years alongside other candidates including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia.
