US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are expected to discuss a wide range of strategic issues during their meeting on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara on July 7, with renewed Russia-Ukraine peace talks expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
One of the key topics will be Türkiye's proposal to once again host negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as Ankara continues its efforts to facilitate a diplomatic settlement to the conflict, The Caspian Post reports via Turkish newspaper Milliyet.
The leaders are also expected to focus on defense cooperation, including Türkiye's planned purchase of $700 million worth of engines for the indigenous KAAN fighter jet, the possible removal of CAATSA sanctions, and Ankara's potential return to the F-35 fighter jet program.
Economic ties will also be high on the agenda, with discussions expected to center on increasing bilateral trade to $100 billion and expanding cooperation in the energy sector, including nuclear energy projects.
Regional security issues are also expected to feature prominently, including Syria's reconstruction, counterterrorism efforts, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
According to the report, both leaders are also likely to review ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, reflecting the roles both Washington and Ankara continue to play in seeking a negotiated solution.
