Tajik Women’s Fencing Team Scores Historic Bronze at Asian Cadet Cup

In a landmark moment for Tajik sports, the national women’s fencing team of Tajikistan secured a historic bronze medal in the team foil competition at the Asian Cadet Cup, currently underway in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This marks the first medal of its kind for Tajikistan since gaining independence, and has been celebrated as a major breakthrough by the country’s fencing community.

The National Fencing Federation of Tajikistan called the achievement a "historic milestone" that reflects the rapid development of fencing in the country, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.

“This is the first medal of such level for Tajikistan since gaining independence and marks a major step forward in the development of national fencing,” the Federation stated in an official release.

The medal-winning trio - Sadia Murodova, Sumaya Murodova, and Anisa Nasimova - represented Tajikistan with pride and determination. Their success is credited in part to their seasoned coaches, Gulbakhor Samiyeva and Rustam Nasimov, and was made possible through the support of the Fencing Federation of Tajikistan and the Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The Federation emphasized that the medal was not only a personal achievement for the athletes and coaches but also a symbolic victory for the nation, showcasing Tajikistan’s rising ability to compete with Asia’s leading fencing nations.

The Asian Cadet Cup is regarded as one of the most prestigious fencing events for youth in the region. Held from September 9 to 13 at Pakhtakor and Yeshlik arenas in Tashkent, the tournament has drawn 207 young athletes from 11 countries, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Belarus, Iraq, Indonesia, Oman, New Zealand, and Macau.

The competition covers three fencing disciplines - foil, sabre, and épée - and features both individual and team events.

In the women’s team foil event, Uzbekistan claimed the gold medal, Kazakhstan took silver, while Tajikistan and Macau shared the bronze.

The tournament schedule includes:

September 9: Boys’ foil and girls’ sabre (individual)

September 10: Individual and team foil and sabre competitions

September 12: Épée and sabre events

September 13: Boys’ team épée, concluding the championship

As fencing continues to gain momentum in Tajikistan, this bronze medal serves as a powerful motivator for the next generation of athletes. With growing institutional support and rising talent, Tajikistan is beginning to make its mark on the Asian fencing stage.
