Tajikistan, Uzbekistan Test New Central Asia–Europe Corridor

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have agreed to test a new multimodal transport corridor connecting Central Asia with China and Europe.

The project begins with a trial convoy of 10 loaded trucks departing from Uzbekistan, crossing Tajikistan, and heading to China, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The full European route stretches from China - Tajikistan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Türkiye - Europe.

The decision follows talks between Tajik Transport Minister Azim Ibrahim and Uzbek Transport Minister Ilkhom Mahkamov, who also discussed moving to electronic permits for international road transport.

Border infrastructure is a key focus: the Jartepa-Sarazm crossing between Samarkand (Uzbekistan) and Penjikent (Tajikistan) will be expanded, with plans for a logistics hub handling up to 100 trucks per day and faster documentation.

The corridor and border upgrades were previously discussed in December 2025 during the joint commission on international road transport in Samarkand. The project was first presented in 2022 in Dushanbe and now enters its practical implementation phase, marking a major step in regional trade and logistics integration.
