Turkmenistan has been selected to host the 84th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), following a decision adopted at the Council’s 83rd session in Baku.
The upcoming meeting is scheduled for May 2026 and will take place in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
The protocol of the Baku session has already been signed. The gathering brought together senior officials from the railway administrations of Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Iran, Armenia, Latvia, and Estonia.
Representatives from the Organization for Cooperation of Railways, the CIS Executive Committee, and the International Confederation of Railway Workers’ Trade Unions also participated in the meeting, underscoring the Council’s broad regional and international engagement in advancing rail transport cooperation.
