Japanese Experts Train Uzbek Specialists in Dementia Care

Japanese experts are training Uzbek specialists in modern approaches to dementia care, marking an important step in strengthening social and healthcare services in Uzbekistan.

A series of training seminars are underway in the presence of specialists from the JWC Rehabilitation Management Association and with support from the World Bank as part of the INSON Project, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The sessions focus on organizing day care centers and delivering specialized support for people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

Starting from March 1, 2026, a new day-care service will be launched under the “Step Toward an Active Life” program. The service will be available to individuals over the age of 18 with relevant diagnoses who are under outpatient psychiatric supervision and do not have behavioral disorders.

To deliver these services, dedicated day care centers will be established based on the Japanese model, applying advanced care and rehabilitation methodologies. During hands-on training, seminar participants learned how to assess patients’ conditions, assist with safe mobility, develop individualized care plans, and conduct group rehabilitation activities, as well as practical methodological approaches to working with beneficiaries.

The training brought together staff from rehabilitation and prosthetics centers, along with managers of “Muruvvat” residential care institutions responsible for organizing social services. Upon completion, participants will be able to act as trainers themselves, passing on newly acquired knowledge and practical skills to specialists in regional institutions-assisting to expand access to high-quality support for people with special needs.
