Uzbek, UAE Officials Discuss Wildlife Conservation

In Samarkand, during the 20th CITES Conference (CoP20), Uzbek Presidential Advisor on Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov has met with UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in wildlife protection, sustainable ecosystem management, and rare species conservation.

Minister Amna highlighted the importance of a regional center in Uzbekistan, established with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a key contribution to environmental monitoring in Central Asia, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The UAE also expressed readiness to cooperate with China on sustainable desert development under the “desert economy” concept, including the creation of trilateral partnerships involving Uzbekistan.

Special attention was given to raptor protection and monitoring mechanisms. Minister Amna urged support for UAE initiatives on falcon registration and digital identification, including digital passports to track rare species and enhance international cooperation under CITES.

Abdukhakimov expressed interest in further collaboration with the UAE and emphasized the value of experience exchange to address growing regional environmental challenges. Both sides agreed to continue practical cooperation and explore new joint initiatives through relevant agencies and scientific organizations.
