Uzbekistan Expands Water Reforms with Support from South Korea’s K-Water

Under the leadership of Deputy Minister Ozoda Juraeva, Uzbek officials have met with Yong-deok Cho, Director of Global Cooperation at South Korea’s K-Water, to discuss strengthening bilateral collaboration, highlighting Uzbekistan’s recent reforms that have expanded access to water supply and sewage services nationwide.

K-Water is internationally recognized for its expertise in water resource management, including reservoir and canal construction, drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting, scientific research, and workforce training, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.

The sides emphasized that international cooperation remains critical to overcoming ongoing challenges in the sector.

Key areas of planned collaboration include:

Strengthening human capital by launching educational programs at Uzbekistan’s Institute for Skills Development, leveraging K-Water Academy’s knowledge and training models;

Deploying digital technologies aimed at reducing water losses and enhancing system monitoring and control;

Supporting Uzbekistan’s accession to the Asian Water Council, where K-Water holds an influential role.

“Our partnership with K-Water will undoubtedly elevate the water sector to new heights and improve public satisfaction with services,” Juraeva stated.

The meeting concluded with plans to exchange official documents and prepare a memorandum of understanding to broaden cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices.
