During the Uzbekistan-Qatar International Tourism Forum held in Doha, Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, has met with influential Qatari entrepreneur and public figure Zaid Al-Hamdan to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.
Al-Hamdan is a key player in the region’s business landscape, serving as Chairman of Armasite Group, head of the Canadian Business Council Qatar, and regional representative of the US-based corporation US21, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
The meeting centered on strategies to promote Uzbekistan’s tourism potential in Qatar and across the Gulf states. Discussions highlighted the importance of positioning Uzbekistan as a unique cultural and historical destination, rooted in the legacy of the Great Silk Road and Islamic civilization, while offering modern tourism infrastructure that caters to both leisure travelers and religious pilgrims.
Al-Hamdan expressed strong interest in collaborating to promote Uzbekistan among Arab audiences. One of the key proposals was to partner with Qatar Airways to feature Uzbek tourism content-both in print and video formats-through the airline’s in-flight entertainment and magazine platforms.
Both sides agreed that such initiatives would significantly boost visibility for Uzbekistan’s tourism sector, especially among transit passengers and potential travelers from the Middle East, helping to establish the country as a leading destination in the region.
