A formal ceremony has been held in Uzbekistan's Tashkent city to celebrate the supply of 202 new Yutong electric buses from China, marking a major step in the capital’s ongoing efforts to modernize its public transport system and reduce environmental impact.
The event was attended by key government officials, including mayor of Tashkent, Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov, members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, and representatives from the Public Council under the Ministry of Transport and the Tashkent administration. Media outlets and local influencers also joined to cover the event, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.
In his remarks, Makhkamov highlighted the scale of the public transport reforms being carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He noted that the arrival of the new electric buses reflects the government’s commitment to building a greener, more efficient, and commuter-friendly transport system.
The minister extended his congratulations to the drivers and staff of Toshshaharttranskhizmat company-the city's public transport operator-on receiving the new fleet and praised their dedication to delivering reliable and high-quality service to Tashkent residents.
The newly delivered electric buses are not only designed to provide a more comfortable ride but are also expected to make a significant environmental impact. Thanks to recent fleet upgrades, harmful emissions in Tashkent have already decreased by over 93 tons per month.
Officials confirmed that this delivery is part of a larger strategic plan to have electric buses comprise 50 per cent of Tashkent’s public transport fleet by 2030. This goal aligns with the city’s broader ecological and infrastructure development strategies aimed at promoting sustainability and improving urban living standards.
The Yutong buses are equipped with modern features to enhance safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency, representing a leap forward in the capital’s green mobility transformation.
