Uzbekistan, Serbia Discuss Opening Embassy in Tashkent, Sign Key Labor Migration Agreement

Head of the Uzbekistan Migration Agency Behzod Musaev has said that during recent talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Aleksandar Vučić, Uzbekistan and Serbia discussed the opening of a Serbian embassy in Tashkent, a move expected to strengthen diplomatic and labor cooperation between the two nations.

At the October 28 meeting in Tashkent, the sides signed several bilateral documents, including a Memorandum of Understanding on labor migration between the Uzbekistan Migration Agency and the Serbian Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Musaev noted that the agreement will create new employment opportunities for Uzbek citizens, allowing Serbian companies to hire workers from Uzbekistan under organized labor migration programs.

He also highlighted that the issue of opening a Serbian embassy in Tashkent was raised during the talks, as the country’s current embassy in Moscow poses logistical challenges for Uzbeks seeking to work or study in Serbia.

In addition, the two sides discussed the launch of direct flights between Tashkent and Belgrade, which would reduce travel costs and boost people-to-people exchanges.

The new Memorandum also includes provisions for allocating quotas for Uzbek workers in Serbia - a step seen as a major milestone in expanding mutual labor mobility and economic partnership between the two countries.
