Azerbaijan to Face Ukraine in Crucial 2026 World Cup Clash

The Azerbaijani national football team will take on Ukraine on September 9 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

The match will kick off at 20:00 (GMT+4) at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium and will be officiated by FIFA referee Vasilios Fotias from Greece, The Caspian Post informs via local media.

Following the recent dismissal of Portuguese coach Fernando Santos, the team will be led by Aykhan Abbasov, head coach of Azerbaijan’s U-21 squad, marking his debut in charge of the senior team.

In their previous matches on September 5, Azerbaijan suffered a 0-5 defeat away to Iceland, while Ukraine fell 0-2 to France.
