Lithuania Eyes Middle Corridor to Expand Trade Routes to Central Asia and China

Lithuania is looking to increase its use of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, commonly known as the Middle Corridor, to transport goods to Central Asia and China.

Speaking to journalists, Julius Skackauskas, manager of Lithuania’s Transport Innovation Association (TIA), said the route offers significant opportunities for strengthening trade links between Europe and Asia, The Caspian Post reports via Report.

He noted that Lithuania has a highly developed transport and logistics industry, which accounts for around 20% of the country’s GDP, making efficient international freight connections a strategic priority.

Skackauskas said that Lithuanian companies are interested in using the Middle Corridor to move goods from Europe to Central Asia and China while also working to improve the route’s efficiency and reduce delivery times.

The Middle Corridor has gained growing international attention in recent years as an alternative trade route connecting Europe and Asia through the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea. The corridor passes through key transit countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Türkiye.

Skackauskas emphasized Azerbaijan’s crucial role in the development of the route, describing the country as a major transport hub linking Europe and Asia. He noted that Azerbaijan’s strategic location makes it a key player in efforts to expand cargo flows and strengthen Eurasian connectivity.
