Russia imported a record volume of frozen fish from Georgia in May, marking the highest monthly value since official records began and highlighting the rapid growth in bilateral seafood trade.
Russian companies imported $1.3 million worth of frozen fish from Georgia in May, up from $1.1 million in April. The monthly increase of 18.2% set a new record in data tracked since 2009, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Georgia.
The figures show a dramatic shift in trade patterns. Until June 2025, fish exports from Georgia to Russia were only occasional. Since then, shipments have continued almost without interruption, with the only exception being January 2026, when no exports were recorded.
In May, only three countries imported frozen fish from Georgia. Alongside Russia, Kazakhstan purchased $500,100 worth of frozen fish, while Azerbaijan imported $313,100.
