The European Parliament will consider the ratification of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) between the EU and Kyrgyzstan during its September plenary session.
The EPCA seeks to deepen cooperation across key strategic areas and build a modern legal framework for stronger bilateral ties, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament has already endorsed the agreement by adopting a resolution recommending its approval.
“I believe the ratification is likely, provided that Kyrgyzstan remains committed to democratic principles and the rule of law,” said Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Tomáš Zdechovský.
MEP Petar Volgin echoed that expectation, noting that the plenary vote is anticipated to pass in favor of the agreement.
The EPCA is designed to boost cooperation in such areas as:
Trade and investment
Sustainable development and infrastructure connectivity
Research and innovation
Education
Environmental protection and climate change
Human rights, the rule of law, and civil society
In addition, the agreement outlines plans for enhanced cooperation on foreign policy and security issues.
Once ratified, the EPCA will serve as a milestone in the EU-Kyrgyzstan relations, paving the way for closer political, economic, and social collaboration.
