Kyrgyz Parliamentary Speaker Honors Tajik National Heritage in Dushanbe

Speaker of the Kyrgyz parliament, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, has arrived in Dushanbe for an official visit, where he paid tribute to Tajikistan’s national and cultural heritage by laying a wreath at the monument to national hero Ismoil Somoni.

During the visit, he held talks with Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Speaker Rustam Emomali, who also serves as Mayor of Dushanbe, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Delegations from both countries attended the discussions, and prior to the meeting, the Kyrgyz speaker signed the Book of Honorary Guests of the Tajik Parliament.

Emomali welcomed his Kyrgyz counterpart and delegation, highlighting the importance of the visit. The leaders discussed a wide range of issues related to the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan relations, emphasizing areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

Kyrgyzstan’s unicameral parliament, consists of 90 members serving five-year terms. Fifty-four members are elected via party-list proportional voting, while 36 are chosen through a first-past-the-post system. Before Kyrgyzstan gained independence in 1991, the body was known as the Supreme Soviet of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic.
