The Kyrgyz city of Talas is poised to strengthen its international ties as it prepares to officially become a sister city with Göreme, one of Türkiye’s renowned cultural and tourist destinations.
Ermat Dzhumaev, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Talas region, announced that an official delegation from Göreme, led by Mayor Ömer Eren, has arrived in Talas on a working visit, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
During their stay, the Turkish guests are familiarizing themselves with the city’s socio-economic development, ongoing projects, and long-term plans.
Meetings held as part of the visit highlighted the close and brotherly relations between Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye, rooted in shared history, cultural heritage, and common values. Dzhumaev noted that, with the support of Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, bilateral cooperation between the two countries has reached a new stage, expanding across trade, economic, social, and cultural spheres.
The sister-city agreement between Talas and Göreme is expected to be formally finalized in the near future. Once in place, the partnership will open the door to joint initiatives focused on municipal development, tourism promotion, cultural exchanges, and the sharing of best practices between the two cities.
Local officials expressed confidence that the new partnership will contribute to stronger people-to-people ties and create fresh opportunities for regional development, further deepening the strategic friendship between Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye.
