Construction of the ambitious Kyrgyzstan-China-Uzbekistan Railway is moving ahead, with large-scale tunnel excavation and infrastructure development now underway.
The key preparatory work has already been completed, including the installation of temporary power infrastructure, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
Four transformer substations have been set up, more than 2,095 power poles installed, and 259 kilometers of transmission lines laid across the route.
In addition, 192.3 kilometers of temporary access roads have been constructed to support ongoing construction activities along the railway corridor.
On several sections, earthwork is in progress, including the formation of the railway subgrade. The project envisions the construction of 29 tunnels with a total length of 104.8 kilometers, making it one of the most technically complex infrastructure projects in the region.
All 29 tunnels are currently under excavation, including eight long tunnels exceeding five kilometers in length.
The project also includes three major strategic tunnels-each over 12 kilometers long:
Naryn Tunnel No. 1
Kosh-Dobo Tunnel
Fergana Tunnel
Once completed, the railway will stretch more than 530 kilometers in total, with around 304 kilometers passing through Kyrgyzstan, significantly strengthening regional connectivity and trade routes between Central Asia and China.
