Kyrgyzstan Takes Center Stage at UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand

A Kyrgyz delegation is actively participating in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, taking place in Uzbekistan's Samarkand city from October 30 to November 13.

On November 4, Ambassador Sadyk Sher-Niyaz, Kyrgyzstan’s representative to UNESCO, thanked the fraternal people of Uzbekistan for their hospitality and hosting the event, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

“Despite all difficulties, the country has achieved political stability and is implementing consistent socio-economic reforms,” Sher-Niyaz said, quoting President Sadyr Japarov.

He highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s focus on climate change, mountain ecosystem preservation, cultural heritage, and progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The ambassador also briefed the delegation on upcoming international events, including the sixth World Nomad Games and the Second Bishkek+25 Summit.

On the same day, Sher-Niyaz and Arslan Koychiev, presidential advisor and special representative for the Issyk-Kul Forum, met with UNESCO Director-General-nominee Khaled Al-Anani, inviting him to participate in the anniversary Issyk-Kul International Forum in June 2026.

A major highlight of the conference was the adoption of a resolution declaring December 15 as “World Turkic Language Family Day”. This initiative, developed over four years with Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, honors the Orkhon inscriptions, the 8th-century monuments of the Turkic script.

The resolution aims to promote the shared language, culture, and documentary heritage of Turkic-speaking states within UNESCO, reinforcing cultural ties across the region.
