Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to China, Aktilek Musaeva, has held a briefing at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretariat in Beijing to present the country’s priorities as SCO chair for 2025-2026.
The event gathered SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, over 25 ambassadors and senior diplomats from member states, observers, dialogue partners, as well as representatives of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local media, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
Musaeva highlighted key initiatives, including security, economic growth, digitalization, ecology, sustainable development, and cultural cooperation, as well as upcoming SCO meetings and events to be hosted in Kyrgyzstan. She also emphasized the chairmanship slogan:
“25 years of the SCO: Together towards sustainable peace, development and prosperity.”
A major focus of the briefing was Kyrgyzstan’s bid for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028, which Musaeva described as “an expression of our readiness to strengthen international peace, dialogue, and justice.”
She also spotlighted climate action, noting Kyrgyzstan’s 2022 initiative at the UN General Assembly to adopt the resolution “Five Years of Action for the Sustainable Development of Mountains”, and invited partners to actively engage.
Earlier, Yermekbayev revealed that 19 countries have applied to join the SCO or change their membership status, signaling growing interest in the organization.
