Lviv Mayor Uncovers Hidden Spy Device After High-Level Meetings in Ukraine

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi has disclosed that a concealed listening device was discovered in his office after recent meetings with senior Ukrainian officials and foreign dignitaries.

The bug was hidden inside the charging stand of a desk phone, which also served as a holder. The device came to light after the phone began malfunctioning and was sent for repairs, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Sadovyi, who has held the mayoral office since 2006, suggested the device may have recorded conversations, although he rarely used that particular phone. In the past month, the mayor hosted notable figures including Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Parliamentary Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, and several foreign visitors.

“If those conversations were leaked, it wouldn’t be ideal, but honestly, we didn’t discuss anything particularly sensitive,” Sadovyi said.

It is currently unknown whether the surveillance was authorized by a court order. Ukraine’s Security Service has launched an investigation into the incident.
