Deadly Russian Attack on Kyiv Leaves 7 Dead, 24 Injured

At least seven people have been killed and 24 others injured after Russia launched a new wave of missile strikes on Kyiv, just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that intelligence pointed to an imminent large-scale attack on the capital.

Kyiv Military Administration head Timur Tkachenko said rescue workers initially recovered five bodies before finding two more beneath the rubble, raising the death toll to seven. He confirmed that 24 people were injured in the attack, The Caspian Post reports via Democrata.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 14 of the injured were hospitalized, including two children aged 7 and 8.

The overnight bombardment caused extensive damage across several districts of the Ukrainian capital. Residential high-rises, warehouses, and other buildings were struck, triggering multiple fires and leaving residents trapped inside damaged apartment blocks.

The hardest-hit area was Darnytskyi district, where rescuers evacuated 22 people from a 25-story residential building after a missile strike damaged the fourth floor. Emergency crews continue searching for survivors.

Additional fires broke out in high-rise buildings in Darnytskyi, while strikes also damaged residential and commercial properties in the Podilskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Obolonskyi districts.

The attack came shortly after Zelenskyy warned that Ukrainian intelligence had detected preparations for another large-scale Russian assault. He suggested the timing was deliberate, occurring shortly after US Independence Day and ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
