Ukraine's Odesa city has come under a renewed Russian attack as strike drones targeted the city and surrounding region, damaging civilian infrastructure and leaving residents injured.
Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, said that the attack took place on January 27 morning. Several drones struck locations across Odesa, damaging residential buildings, civilian facilities, and a construction site, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
Preliminary information indicates that one woman sustained shrapnel wounds and was hospitalized, while another woman was rescued from a damaged building. Officials said her condition is stable and her life is not in danger. Nearby apartment blocks also suffered shattered windows due to the blast wave. Local community groups reported power outages in several districts, with emergency crews deployed to restore electricity and assess the damage.
The Odesa strike came amid a broader wave of Russian attacks across Ukraine. On January 26, missile strikes hit Kharkiv and the surrounding region, damaging civilian infrastructure and triggering power outages. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said residential high-rise buildings and schools in the Industrialny district were affected, while disruptions to water, electricity, and heating supplies were recorded. At least two people were reported injured.
Train services on Kharkiv’s Saltivska and Oleksiivska metro lines were temporarily suspended, and Akademika Pavlova station was closed to passengers. In the wider Kharkiv region, strikes on critical infrastructure left several settlements, including Chuhuiv, without electricity.
Meanwhile, in Kryvyi Rih, emergency services continue to deal with the aftermath of a drone strike on a residential high-rise building. A Shahed-type drone hit the apartment block, prompting authorities to set up assistance centers and temporary accommodation for displaced residents amid freezing winter temperatures.
Ukrainian officials say emergency response and repair operations are ongoing across all affected regions, while investigations into the attacks continue.
