A fire has broken out at an oil depot in the Russian city of Penza following a Ukrainian drone strike.
Oleg Melnichenko, governor of Penza, debris from a downed drone fell onto the depot’s territory, igniting the blaze. Emergency services were promptly dispatched and continue response operations, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
Officials said no casualties have been reported. Temporary restrictions on mobile internet services were introduced during the incident.
Penza is located approximately 545 kilometers from Ukraine’s northeastern border, highlighting the expanding range of long-distance drone operations. In a separate incident, authorities in Voronezh said that debris from intercepted drones caused a fire at a residential house. No injuries were confirmed there either.
Ukraine has repeatedly stated that Russian energy infrastructure constitutes a legitimate strategic target, arguing that such facilities play a role in supporting Russia’s military operations. Recent reports of strikes on oil terminals and fuel depots across multiple Russian regions point to a continued escalation in long-range drone attacks as the conflict enters a new phase.
