Ukraine says it has struck and destroyed five Russian vessels in a large-scale drone attack targeting occupied ports and coastal areas under Russian control.
Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, said that the operation targeted cargo ships and tankers operating in the ports of Mariupol and Berdiansk, as well as waters near Crimea. The vessels were being used to transport military supplies, fuel, and grain taken from occupied Ukrainian territories, The Caspian Post reports via RBC-Ukraine.
Brovdi claimed the ships were operating covertly, with identifying markings removed and tracking systems switched off in an effort to avoid detection.
The strike was carried out using specialized Ukrainian drones equipped with 100-kilogram warheads, marking one of the latest attacks in Kyiv’s expanding campaign against Russian naval assets.
The reported operation follows several recent Ukrainian drone strikes, including attacks on a Russian patrol vessel near Crimea and the corvette Boykiy near St. Petersburg, highlighting Ukraine’s growing ability to target military assets far from the front lines.
A video released by Ukrainian forces reportedly shows moments from the operation as Kyiv continues to intensify pressure on Russia’s maritime capabilities.
