Tajik President Departs for US to Attend “Central Asia + US” Summit

On the morning of November 5, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon departed from Doha, Qatar, on a working visit to the US at the personal invitation of US President Donald Trump.

The “Central Asia + US” Summit will be held in Washington, D.C., on November 6 in the C5+1 format, bringing together the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The first summit of this kind took place in September 2023 in New York, where discussions focused on green energy development, regional security, and economic cooperation. This year’s lineup of Central Asian leaders remains unchanged, though the US side is now represented by President Donald Trump, succeeding Joe Biden, who hosted the inaugural meeting.

Ahead of the summit, Washington has shown renewed interest in Central Asia, emphasizing the region’s strategic importance for global security, economic growth, and energy cooperation. Analysts note that the US aims to deepen multifaceted partnerships with regional states, including in infrastructure investment, digital transformation, and climate initiatives.

Before his departure to the US, President Rahmon participated in the Second World Summit on Social Development in Qatar, where he highlighted Tajikistan’s progress in employment generation - noting that over four million jobs have been created or restored across various socio-economic sectors in the past two decades.
